Grace is unmerited favor. Undeserved favor.
And isn’t that the way our animals love us?
It doesn’t matter if I’m having a bad day. If I’m acting a fool, being ugly, or just not being the best version of myself.
They don’t care.
They come back.
Their love doesn’t depend on whether I’ve earned it that day. It doesn’t disappear when I’m struggling. It stays. It sits beside me. It waits for me.
And for that reason, I think animals may be the closest experiences we have of understanding how God loves us.
Unconditionally.
A love that doesn’t waver. A love that stays by your side.
That kind of love is something most of us desperately need. And for someone who has never really experienced it from another person, sometimes an animal is the first safe place to feel it.
I think that’s why I’m so passionate about saving animals and connecting them with people.
Because if you can touch and feel and experience the presence of that kind of love–even through an animal–maybe something inside you begins to open.
Maybe you begin to believe that you are worthy of being loved without earning it.
And maybe, just maybe, it opens you to the possibility of a God who loves you even more that that.
That is Grace
