Pay Attention

I love synchronicity.

I love those moments when one thing happens, and then another, and then another—and suddenly I find myself thinking, Okay, God. I’m paying attention.

This morning started with two bunnies.

I was out walking when a bunny crossed my path. Not long afterward, another one did.

Now, if you know me, you know I notice things like this. Feathers. Hearts. Animals. Words. Things that seem to show up at just the right time.

So naturally, I came home and looked up what rabbits can symbolize.

Among the meanings I found were new beginnings, abundance, sensitivity, awareness, and being ready to move when the time is right.

Well, that got my attention.

Because moving forward—without knowing exactly where I’m going—is pretty much where I am right now.

And somewhere in all of that, I started thinking about the saying “hindsight is 20/20.”

Isn’t it funny how much easier it is to see the pattern when we look backward?

We can look back and see how one person led us to another. How something that didn’t work out redirected us. How a conversation planted a seed. How a painful ending eventually became the beginning of something else.

Looking backward, we can connect the dots.

But faith doesn’t usually work backward.

Faith asks us to walk forward when we can’t see how the dots are going to connect.

That’s where I find myself with Finding Grace Sanctuary.

I’ve stepped out. I’ve said yes. I’ve put this dream into the world.

Do I know how it’s all going to happen?

Absolutely not.

The land. The money. The people. The timing. There are about a thousand things I could sit around trying to figure out.

And believe me, my brain is perfectly willing to try. 😂

But I’m learning that maybe my job isn’t to figure out the entire outcome.

Maybe my job is to release the outcome to God and take the next right action.

And then pay attention.

Because I believe something begins to happen when we do that.

Little things start showing up along the way.

A random text.

A conversation you weren’t expecting.

Someone saying exactly what you needed to hear.

An animal crossing your path.

A feather.

A Scripture.

A tiny ray of hope that says,

Keep going.

And then came the coffee cup.

After my walk, I stopped for coffee.

I’ve lived here almost two and a half years. I’ve been to this coffee shop many times.

Never—not once—have I had a Scripture written on my coffee cup.

This morning I did.

Matthew 5:16.

“Let your light shine before others…”

I just stared at it.

Of all mornings.

Of all Scriptures.

Okay, God. I’m listening.

But then it got even better.

Later that morning, a friend commented on the blog post I had shared yesterday about Finding Grace.

And that’s the part that really got me.

Her comment had absolutely nothing to do with what had happened that morning.

She wasn’t responding to my coffee cup. She didn’t know about the two bunnies. She didn’t know that Matthew 5:16 had just landed in my hands.

She was simply responding to something I had written the day before.

She left me a beautiful message of encouragement about Finding Grace. She talked about believing that God would make a way and clear the path.

And then she ended her comment with her favorite Scripture:

Proverbs 3:5–6.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Good grief.

There it was again.

Let your light shine.

Trust Me.

I’ll direct the path.

Two completely unrelated moments.

The person who wrote on my coffee cup had no idea what I was walking through.

My friend had no idea what had happened that morning.

And yet somehow, the messages fit together.

And that is what synchronicity feels like to me.

Some people will call things like this coincidence.

That’s okay.

I don’t need anyone else to experience them the way I do.

In my world, these aren’t just random happenings.

I believe God’s world has synchronicity.

It has patterns.

It has connections.

It has things working together that we may not understand while they’re happening.

Romans 8:28 tells us that “all things work together for good to them that love God.”

All things work together.

Maybe that’s why hindsight is 20/20.

Maybe we aren’t supposed to see the whole pattern while we’re standing in the middle of it.

Maybe one day I’ll look backward and see how the people, the conversations, the closed doors, the open doors, the strange timing, the encouragement, the bunnies, the coffee cup—and probably a whole bunch of things I haven’t even experienced yet—all fit together.

But I don’t need to see that today.

And I don’t believe signs mean everything is going to be easy.

I certainly don’t think two bunnies crossing my path means somebody is about to show up and hand me ten acres of beautiful East Texas land.

Although, God, if that’s what we’re doing, I’m available. 😂

Maybe these moments aren’t the whole answer.

Maybe they’re simply little rays of hope along the way.

Enough encouragement to take another step.

Enough light to keep walking.

Enough reassurance to loosen my grip on how I think everything is supposed to happen.

I’m beginning to understand that purpose may not require me to know where the road ends.

It may simply ask me to surrender the outcome.

Take the next right action.
Pay attention.
Trust God.
And keep walking.

Because maybe someday, with that beautiful 20/20 hindsight, I’ll look back and finally see the pattern that God could see all along.

But for today?

I have enough.

Sometimes God doesn’t give us the whole map.

Sometimes He just gives us enough light for the next step. ❤️
